What You Need to Know About Your Business’s Electricity

In many regions businesses are forced to use one service for their energy needs. There are no other companies that provide this service in their area.

Different Areas have Different Options

Solar energy means not having to rely on a power company, but it also means that there needs to be enough sunlight available daily to generate electricity that your company needs without having to fall back on the power company in your area. Micro hydro powered electricity wouldn’t be a particularly feasible idea in the middle of the desert (I’m not sure having a business in the middle of the desert would be lucrative either). But you can see the problem here. Not everyone has options. Short of building giant wind turbines in the back lot of your business most businesses are forced to deal with the major power company in their area.

Where are You Located?

Your best bet is to check with your local UCA (utilities consumer advocate), if one is available in your area, to check out the actual options available to your business for its electricity. They can provide contact information for electrical providers, price summaries and rate plans. Rate plans can consist of gas and electrical bundling packages, green energy plans and stable rate plans. Companies that are rate regulated base their rates on long-term and short term market prices. The rates tend to have a month to month variability. There are also ways to make your business run more efficiently when it comes to electrical power. Programmable thermostats to shut off heat when and where none is needed, windows that let out less heat in cold months and let in less heat during warmer months, high efficiency water heaters and heating systems that make the most of the power that they are supplied are highly utilitarian.

Your local power company can provide you with the expertise needed to determine where you can save or you can use a compare business electricity prices website.
